Citable Units Assignment – a In this COUC 740 assignment, I use 50 peer-reviewed articles within 10 years of the date to write to begin a literature review on the topic of guilt and shame and its role in alcohol use.
Literature Review – a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k In this COUC 740 assignment, I wrote a literature review on guilt and shame, and its role in alcohol use.
Benchmark Proposal – a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l In this COUC 740 assignment, I use the literature review above to propose a study for gaps found within the research.
CITI Training Completion – j, l, m In this COUC 745 assignment, I completed the training necessary to complete research with human subjects. This training was provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), who grants access to complete IRB submissions for Liberty University.
Quantitative Analysis Portfolio Assignment – a, b In this COUC 745 assignment, I demonstrate my knowledge of analyzing and summarizing quantitative test results. Test samples include: independent samples t-test, repeated measures t-test, one-way between subjects ANOVA, a two-way between subjects ANOVA and ANCOVA.
Model Rationale Assignment – a, b, g In this COUC 745 assignment, I work with a colleague to propose a research question, a rationale for the study, and a model for our research.
Manuscript – a, f, h, i, j, k In this COUC 745 assignment, my colleague and I submit a final manuscript after conducting research with previously collected data from our professor’s data set. This manuscript includes a literature review, hypotheses, conceptual models, results, a discussion and limitations and implications for future research. This manuscript was initially intended to be published, but with limited time left in the semester, my colleague and I decided against publication.
Qualitative Dialogue Papers – a, c In this COUC 750 assignment, I give a reflective summary of an article using the de Bono’s six thinking hats method of processing information.
Benchmark Textbook Critical Analysis and Synthesis – a, c, d, g, l In this COUC 810 assignment, I work with several colleagues to com
Research Coding and Analysis Assignment – a, c, d Researcher Identity Memo Assignment – a, c, d In this COUC 750 two-part assignment, I work with a colleague to document the process of coding a transcript provided by the was professor. I then document my thoughts, feelings, and questions that arose as I coded the transcript.
Final Manuscript Blind Submission – a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, j, l, m In this COUC 810 assignment, I work with several colleagues to research, write, and submit a manuscript for publication to an ACA peer-reviewed journal. This manuscript was also submitted as an ACES proposal.
Grant Application – k In this COUC 810 assignment, I demonstrate the ability to submit required documentation and give a rationale for the support requested through the grant. In this grant I request funding to attend the ACES conference.
Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Classroom Grant – k After taking COUC 810, I applied for a classroom grant to purchase supplies for my office. The supplies were to support the comprehensive school counseling program at my former place of employment; assisting in lessons on emotional self-regulation.
Reflections 1. What has been especially important to you personally and professionally? When I entered this doctoral program I had a fear of research. The further I progressed through the program the more I found purpose and excitement in research. In some instances, research can still be intimidating to me, but I can now take it step by step and digest it. 2. What is one way you plan to utilize this strength in your vocation? I look forward to continuing research as I know it is more than just a requirement for tenure as a professor. It advances our field of work and provides a way to bridge the gap between “I think” and “I know”, ultimately shifting to advocacy and systemic change. 3. What is your plan to develop excellence in this area? I plan to: a) step out on faith and initiate my own research. I have so many ideas, but have not been confident enough to present on my own. b) remain open to the ideas of joining research projects with colleagues. It is okay for me to work with others if there is a shared research interest. c) remain a member of professional organizations, where I can have access to research, gain knowledge, and present at conferences. 4. Reflect on how faith in Christ relates to this competency. Proverbs 2: 1-11 (NIV) declares, “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.” This passage of scripture leads me to believe that through research, I am looking for a truth amongst the world. Some may not believe that the truth exists, however, the Lord can and will use me as a vessel to share knowledge and understanding with others as truth is explored.
