Reflections
1. What has been especially meaningful to you personally and professionally?
Evaluations in this competency have been very meaningful to me. Students have shared that they like and appreciate when I teach because I have the dual role of being in the same field of work as them. Many times professors are no longer actively teaching school counselors. The feedback during evaluations helps me solidify that what I am teaching/sharing is impactful to their learning.

2. What is one way you plan to utilize this strength in your vocation?
I plan to employ active and experiential pedagogy, model the professional identity, be an effective gatekeeper, and includes supervision as a teaching function.

3. What is your plan to develop excellence in this area?
Teaching is my passion; my bread and butter. I would love to secure a job as an associate professor for a state higher education institution. With the roles and responsibilities of a professor, I would regularly practice pedagogical leadership: curriculum design, adrogogy, and the professional socialization.

4. Reflect on how faith in Christ relates to this competency.
Titus 2 is informative in guiding teaching. The chapter begins with “You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.” This verse reminds me that we do not teach without good intention. Everything taught within the program is required by CACREP and theoretically grounded; much like scripture.

People seek educational programs, certifications, and degrees because they want to learn. Proverbs 9:9 states “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning”. This is encouragement to grow the counselor in training, and grow the field with capable and competent counselors.
